| At present the Group's activity includes
all fields of Civil and Hydraulic, Transportation, Electromechanical,
Environmental and Infrastructure engineering, including:
The Group's main business divisions
Mobility and transportation
division
Movement of people and
goods is the focus of current development throughout the world.
This strongly felt need has created a heavy demand for
improved infrastructures in every corner of the globe.
One of the Group's main
involvements is in the transportation field, which has been
a key money maker for it.
The Group's most important
projects in this field include construction of the main network
of roads in Central Africa and construction of principal motorways
in Italy, Europe, North Africa and the United States, and the main railway projects in Venezuela.
Railroad design and construction,
particularly modern high speed systems, have made the Group
an international leader in this industry.
The Group is also involved
in urban transportation, both commuter trains and subways,
and it has completed important projects in Italy, Europe and
Latin America. Other major projects are currently in progress.
Air and sea transportation
has become increasingly important in recent years. The group
has a strong background in this sector as witnessed by the
new Otopeni Airport in Bucharest and the Port in Gioia Tauro.
This port, with its still modern construction technology,
is now a leading Mediterranean port for cargo.
Energy and water production
division
Astaldi is heavily involved in the
energy production industry throughout the world,
primarily in the field of large dams
and hydroelectric power plants.
The creation of complete
hydroelectric power plants with construction of all types
of dams and all additional construction work, such as derivation
and collection work, open air feed and tunnel conduits, floodways,
forced channels, open air and subterranean power stations
and pumping systems are all part of the strong technical and
technological background the Group possesses and constantly
updates with its presence in all corners of the world.
The enormous
Tarbela dam in Pakistan, Nacaome dam in Honduras, Balambano dam
in Indonesia, Xiaolangdi dam in China, Inga hydroelectric power plant
in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as well as numerous dams in
Italy are witness to this presence and experience.
This experience was recognized in
1990 when the Group won the Ingersoll Rand Award
for the Concepcion dam in Honduras.
The Group is currently very involved in
this field in Italy, in Piedmont, with the construction of
Pont Ventoux hydroelectric power plant, and in Bolivia with
the Rio Taquesi project.
Civil and industrial
division
Civil and industrial
construction has always been part of Gruppo Astaldi's
activity.
An important feature in this field is the Group's tendency
to build buildings and urban areas in collaboration
with famous architects. An outstanding example of this
are the office buildings created in France in the
1970's based on a design from architect
Oscar Nimeier.
The control center
built for ACEA in Rome is one of the most important
examples of industrial architecture in steel
with an extremely elegant and modern design.
The Courthouse in Pescara
is another example of a highly functional building with impressive
dimensions featuring an outstanding architectural design.
Group interventions in
central Africa have attempted to
create urban areas incorporating industrial areas,
for a more organized development.
Concessions and project financing
In keeping with the Group's Industrial Plan strategies
aimed at increasing the size of the Group and its profit,
development and strengthening of the Contracts and Project
Financing activity has been underway for some time now in
key sectors, including:
- Transport infrastructures
