The Astaldi Group, in a joint venture, has won the EUR 186 million construction contract (Astaldi’s share: 34.226%) to carry out the doubling of the la Bicocca-Catenanuova section of Italy’s Palermo-Catania railway line.

The contract calls for the construction design and the performance of works along a route that will extend for about 38 kilometres. The works will have a duration of approximately 54 months, including 6 months for design activities, and are to be completed in 2022.

The Customer is RFI, and the works will be performed by Astaldi (with a 34.226% share), in a joint venture with Salini Impregilo (51.308%), SIFEL (7.327%) and CLF (7.139%). In line with common practice, the contract is expected to be signed after verification of the prerequisites for taking part in the tender.

The new infrastructure will upgrade Sicily’s links, connecting it to the European TEN-T Corridors system.
