The Astaldi Group has been awarded the works to updgrade a section of the E-59 Warsaw-Poznań railway line (Lot IV). The contract amounts to EUR 82 million, with Astaldi leading a joint venture with a 95% share.
The project calls for the reconstruction of track systems for 35 kilometres on the existing line for the section from the boundary with the Lower Silesia Province in Leszno. Also planned is the construction of two railway stations (Rawicz and Bojanowo), the upgrading of the line’s viaduct system, as well as the building of two additional viaducts. The works will be carried out without interruption of the railway traffic on the line. The works are expected to last slightly more than 2 years.
The Customer is PKP (Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.), the public company that operates Poland’s railway infrastructure. Astaldi will carry out the works in a joint venture with C.L.F. (5%, Italy). The works will be financed by European funds and by the State budget.
Winning this new contract is in line with the Group’s business strategy which, in line with 2017-2021 Strategic Plan, calls for strengthening activity in Central Europe, in the countries where Astaldi already boasts a historic presence in transport infrastructure – a sector in which the Group today ranks as one of the world’s top 14 Contractors in terms of turnover produced in the mass transit and rail segment.
The new project also raises the Group’s standing in Poland, where today Astaldi manages an order backlog equalling approximately EUR 1 billion related to the extension of Line 2 of the Warsaw Underground (whose central section, between Rondo Daszynskiego-Dworzec Wilenski, was completed by Astaldi in 2015), as well the building of Warsaw’s southern bypass road (with approximately 2.3 kilometres of cut-and-cover tunnel), a lot of the S-7 expressway near Krakow (with approximately 2 km of bored tunnel), 50 kilometres of motorway (referring to two sections of the S-8 and one of the S-5), and a waste-to-energy plant in Rzeszow (on the heels of the one in Bydgoszcz-Torun, completed in late 2015). It recently acquired the contract to modernise about 68 kilometres of the N-7 railway line, linking Warsaw and Dorohusk, currently in the construction stage.
