Astaldi informs that, as part of a joint venture, has been awarded the contract in Romania for the rehabilitation of the Frontieră-Curtici-Simeria railway line, called Lot 3. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 600 million of which 49.5% pertaining to Astaldi.

The contract involves the rehabilitation of about 40 kilometres in the section between Gurasada and Simeria, with the building of 17 bridges, electrification, the installation of the ERTMS signalling and telecommunications system, the renovation of 8 railway stations and some minor works. The planned duration of the works is three years.

The fact that this new lot is next to two others recently acquired with the same partner FCC will allow major operational synergies and economies of scale.

The Customer is CFR SA, the Romanian National Railways Company. The works are funded by the EU in the context of the POIM programme for the modernisation of Railway Corridor IV Curtici-Brasov-Constanta.

Astaldi will undertake the works in joint venture with the Spanish companies FCC (leader, with 49.5%) and CONVENSA (1%).

The start-up of the works is planned after the signature of the contract, expected to take place by June 2017.

The Astaldi Group has been operating for more than 20 years in Romania, where it has already built more than 100 kilometres of railways and undergrounds, 250 kilometres of roads and motorways, 2 international airports (Henri Coanda in Bucharest, Avram Iancu in Cluj-Napoca) and, in Bucharest, the Lia Manoliu National Stadium, the scenic Basarab viaduct, and the extension of Line 4 of the Underground.
